Born and raised in Scotland, I now live in Edinburgh with my children.
I’ve always been fascinated by life, more specifically how to optimise the health of it. This has been the thread that has linked my varied career.
I decided at 4 to become a vet, I completely ignored all advice and qualified in 1997. However, it wasn’t the best career for someone allergic to anything covered in fur or feathers.
I retrained in Medicine, working until the kids arrived.
After they arrived I needed to concentrate on family and the family farm for a while.
When the time was right to return to the workplace, I decided to become a Feldenkrais Practitioner, and optimise health in a different way, as much for myself as others.
I first came across the Feldenkrais Method when I was a junior doctor struggling with a grumbling lower back. I had a few lessons and things improved, but I didn’t give it much thought.
However, I developed pelvic problems during pregnancy, physiotherapy gave me crutches and told me to wait till my pregnancy was over, it would be fine.
Well, it wasn’t. I couldn’t walk without struggling, it wasn’t painful anymore but it felt like I didn’t know how to walk anymore.
I remembered Feldenkrais and the quiet gentle way it just changed how I stood and moved.
Over just a few lessons I noticed a dramatic change in my own ability to stand, move and walk without struggle. I fell in love with the method.
Eventually I embarked on the four year training to become a practitioner, finally qualifying in October 2021.
